Dual Diagnosis
Dual Diagnosis is a DHS recommended course for workers in the AOD and
MH sectors. It includes orientation to the AOD and Mental
Health Sector, Assessing the needs of clients with AOD and
Metal Health issues with a focus on assessment tools, referrals,
understanding of models of rehabilitation for consumers with
AOD and mental health issues, networking with other services
to support practices.
Pre-requisites
This course has been designed to cater for students with either a background in mental health or alcohol and other drugs work. Candidates must be employed by a clinical mental health service, a non-clinical Mental Health service or an AOD treatment service.
Course Description
Topics include; assessment and screening processes for MH
and AOD clients, Orientation to the MH and AOD Sector,
and knowledge and skills used to identify and respond
appropriately to dual diagnosis clients. Advanced practitioners
can provide integrated assessment, treatment and recovery.

Dual Diagnosis is comprised of the following units:
- CHCMH401A - Work effectively in MH settings.
- CHCMH504D - Provide a range of services to people with MH issues.
- CHCCS504A - Provide services to clients with complex issues.
- CHCAOD402A - Work effectively in the AOD sector.
- CHCAOD408A - Assess the needs of clients with AOD issues.
Where candidates already possess competency in a unit, direct credit transfer may be applied upon receipt of A notarised copy of qualifications.
Expected study hours per week: 8-10

You may be eligible for a Government Funded enrolment if you meet the following criteria:
You are an Australian citizen; ( OR A holder of a permanent visa; OR A holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444); OR An East Timorese asylum seeker; OR A holder of a Temporary Protection Visa ) and you reside in Victoria.
And
You are under 20 years of age.
OR
The qualification you are applying for is higher than other Australian qualifications you hold.
*This training is provided with Victorian Government funding, $275.00 represents the required student contribution. Enrolments are subject to available funding.
