Skills Set for Health Professionals

The AOD Skill Set equips individuals who hold a Certificate IV AOD or a tertiary health, social or behavioural science qualification with the entry level requirement for the AOD sector.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Candidates may apply for recognition of prior learning for one or more units. Please see the student handbook for more information. Please be aware that evidence submitted for RPL cannot be returned. Applicants are encouraged to keep copies of their whole portfolio.

Assessment Strategies include:
Case scenarios & studies, short answer tests & essays, simulations, quizzes, referral & treatment planning exercises, interviews & scripted role plays.

Course Description
Completion of this skill set ensures new practitioners have the skills and knowledge required to work in the AOD and MH sectors. The Skill Set units include:

  • CHCAOD402A - Work effectively in the alcohol and other drugs sector
  • CHCAOD408A - Assess the needs of clients with alcohol and/or other drug issues
  • CHCAOD406D - Work with clients who are intoxicated
  • CHCMH401A - Work effectively in mental health settings
  • CHCAOD510A - Work effectively with clients with complex alcohol and/or other drug issues
  • CHCMH504D - Provide a range of services to people with mental health issues


Expected study hours per week:6-8

You may be eligible for a Government Funded enrolment if you meet the following criteria:

You are an Australian citizen; ( OR A holder of a permanent visa; OR A holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444); OR An East Timorese asylum seeker; OR A holder of a Temporary Protection Visa ) and you reside in Victoria.

And

You are under 20 years of age.

OR

The qualification you are applying for is higher than other Australian qualifications you hold.
